Just a reminder to everyone that we will have our May  LUG meeting  at 6:30pm on Thursday, May 9th. Don’t forget that we are now meeting in the Board Room. Directions: Take the elevator to the third floor then turn right and walk straight into the room. Please try to avoid food or drink in the new room.

  • Python Training – Peter Hedlund is going to begin a series of Python lessons. He will be facilitating the groups progression through the materials. If you can and are interested please bring a  laptop and learn along with everyone else. It should be a fun time.
  • Performance Tools – Sam Williams  is going to continue a series he started awhile back on Linux performance tools.
  • Current News – Sam Williams  is going to lead a discussion on some of the more interesting news items from the past month.

Hope to see you all there!

The April  RRLug meeting went really well. We had 10 people attending and we met at out usual time of  6:30pm. The meeting location has changed one more time and this time we have moved into the Executive Board Room. The new location isn’t a classroom at all, but it has all the immensities we were used to in our former classroom.  Directions: Take a right turn out of the elevator on the third floor and head straight in.

April was designated  as a  general discussion and strategy meeting.  We discussed many things Linux related and in general had a good time. Peter Hedlund gave a couple of impromptu presentations. The first was a demo on using the ChipKit Development Kit from MicroChip. The second was a video from the BenHeck show on the PIC32 Microcontroller Tutorial   which was also based around the Chipkit development environment.

It was a good meeting and everyone had an awesome time.

Just a reminder to everyone that we will have our April  LUG meeting  at 6:30pm on Thursday, April 11th. The plan right now is to  have a general discussion and strategy meeting.  Of course if anyone has anything they would like to present or demo to the rest of the group  they are always welcome to do so.

Hope to see you all there!

The March  RRLug meeting went really well. We had  12  people attending. ! We met at out usual time of  6:30pm  at Rasmussen College (rm 403).   There were two presentations in March:

  • Raspberry Pi / Pi Cobbler – Peter Hedlund  demonstrated a few things he has done with the Pi Cobbler (GPIO breakout board) and the Raspberry Pi. Peter saved this demo for the March meeting and we all found it to be a very interesting way of interfacing the Raspberry Pi to the outside world.
  • Enlightenment Desktop – Sam Williams continued  his demonstration of Enlightenment 17 release ZERO. In January  he started by demonstrating the desktop on a Raspberry Pi to show just how well it would run on low resource hardware. This month he discussed the many different ways the desktop could be configured and used. It only took 10 years, but Enlightenment 17 has shaped up quite well.

Just a reminder to everyone that we will have our March  LUG meeting  at 6:30pm on Thursday, March 14th.

  •  Raspberry Pi / Pi Cobbler – Peter Hedlund is going to demonstrate some of the things that can be done using the Pi Cobbler (GPIO breakout board) and the Raspberry Pi. Peter saved this all for the march meeting. Hope you all enjoy.
  • Enlightenment Desktop – Sam Williams continues  his demonstration of Enlightenment 17 release ZERO. In January  you could see  the desktop could easily be used on lower resource hardware, particularly on a Raspberry Pi. This month we discussed a little more areas of configuration.

Hope to see you all there!

We had 8 people attending the February meeting in spite of the unfortunate serendipity that landed us right smack dab on Valentine’s day! The lower attendance number suggests that domestic harmony was preserved and this was in fact not the source of any foretold  cataclysm suggested by ancient Mayan prophecy.

Tonight’s meeting  was productive and consisted  of several  informal discussion threads.  Peter decided to totally shelve his discussion of the Pi Cobbler interface until the March meeting! Sam will be continuing  his discussion of the Enlightenment desktop in March as well.

All in all it was a good meeting with lots of good conversation! Next month we will resume our normal activities and certainly hope you can all make it!

Just a reminder to everyone that we will have our February LUG meeting  at 6:30pm on Thursday, February 14th.

  • Tonight’s meeting will consist mostly of informal discussion due to the fact that our turn-out will be lower because of Valentines Day.  So if  Valentine festivities aren’t on your  agenda today please come out and we will make an evening of it.
  •  Raspberry Pi / Pi Cobbler – Peter Hedlund is going to demonstrate some of the things that can be done using the Pi Cobbler (GPIO breakout board) and the Raspberry Pi. If the attendance numbers are lower Peter promised to revisit this in March so you don’t have to worry about missing it!

FYI, if you are seriously dating or married make sure you get prior approval to attend. RRLug doesn’t want to promote any type of relationship discord beyond what is already endured being in a relationship with a computer geek!!! :-) If you can’t make it we totally understand and will hopefully see you in March!

The January  RRLug meeting went really well. We had  9 people attending as the year got off to a good start ! We met at 6:30pm  at Rasmussen College (rm 403).  Tonight there were two presentations:

  • Favorite Linux Commands – Sam Williams started out the new year discussions with several of his favorite Linux commands.
  • Sublime Text 2 – Peter Hedlund gave a great presentation on the relatively new text editor Sublime Text 2. Its not free, but its cheap, has a great deal of unique functionality, and it also has a vim compatibility mode called “vintage”.
  • Enlightenment Desktop – Sam Williams continued his demonstration of Enlightenment 17 release ZERO. Last month you could see that the desktop could easily be used on lower resource hardware, particularly on a Raspberry Pi. This month we discussed a little more areas of configuration.

The meeting was fun and there were many interesting questions asked. I suspect there will be several instances of E17 spinning up on a system near you soon and all running Sublime Text 2:-) Thanks Peter for a great presentation!

  • Version Control Basics - Sam Williams will begin a multi-part series of presentations on version control tools, practices, and methods. Tonight he will start us off with a basic discussion of the fundamental concepts.

Hope you all can come out and catch up.

The December  RRLug meeting went really well. The holiday season lowered our attendance just a bit though to 9 people ! We met at 6:30pm  at Rasmussen College (rm 403).  Tonight there were two presentations:

  • Using USB Thumb-drives & Linux  – Sam Williams discussed using USB drives with Linux and how to deal with them. He discussed the importance of testing new and old thumb-drives alike particularly if they haven’t been used in awhile. Sam discussed proper test methods, securing data, and performance testing during the presentation.
  • Enlightenment (E17)/ Raspberry Pi – Sam Williams gave a two-pronged presentation on using the  pre-released Enlightenment 17 release ZERO. with the Raspberry Pi.  Sam gave some useful historic perspective on Enlightenment and an exposure to some awesome display  technology. Using the Raspberry Pi,  Sam was able to start demonstrating how E17  is perfect for computers with low hardware resources! Sadly the VGA<>HDMI adapter started misbehaving so it will be necessary to continue exploring the formally  released  Enlightenment 17 release ZERO ( release 12/21/12) at the January meeting.

As always we had some great and lively discussion!
